isn't a good roof with large overhangs far simpler and maybe sounder??
Short answer: I don't think so.
If one lives in an area where wind-driven horizontal rains are common,
then even 2.1 metre wide roof overhangs (or open-sided porches around the
lower storey if a two-storey house) aren't going to prevent the walls from
getting wet.
The other thing is that broad roof overhangs or open-sided porch roofs are
prone to wind uplift.
Not much fun having to pick up a roof off of the ground ... or worse.
Okay, okay. It is fun but usually only if it's not your roof.
