RE: [Strawbale] External cladding

Regarding the plastering of bales if they are going to be finished with external clading, a suggestion might be to dip the edges of the face edges of the bales in a clay slip before the walls go up, a la Tom Rijven (the french dip) Using this method the first 3 or 4 cms of the bales is impregnated with clay.

Most of the information on cladding tends to be on the use of lime
render or plaster rather than cement and this is understood. Does anyone
have experience of using a cladding system, such as tile hanging.

I envisage the use of straw bales as the load bearing wall with a
breathable membrane battens and vertical tiles. This should allow the
wall to breathe, move and shed rain.

Comments would be welcome.
