Short answer: I don't think so.


If one lives in an area where wind-driven horizontal rains are common,  
then even 2.1 metre wide roof overhangs (or open-sided porches around the  
lower storey if a two-storey house) aren't going to prevent the walls from  
getting wet.

The other thing is that broad roof overhangs or open-sided porch roofs are  
prone to wind uplift.

Not much fun having to pick up a roof off of the ground ... or worse.

Okay, okay. It is fun but usually only if it's not your roof.
