Natural Building and Permaculture Convergence (was Re: [Strawbale] Re: Strawbale Digest, Vol 4, Issue 11)

Dear friends and colleagues --

I hope you will find this announcement of interest.  I am again helping to organize the Build Here Now! event for June 2006.  This is a truly joyous event in a spectacular setting, and a great place to meet like-minded people.
regards,
Catherine Wanek

Build Here Now, Grow Here Now, Live Here Now:
A Natural Building, Permaculture and Sustainable Lifestyles Convergence

June 11 18, 2006  Cost:  $495 until April 1, 2006, $650 thereafter (children 16 and under half-price)

The Lama Foundation?s 7th Build Here Now! Convergence features the construction of an earth-plastered straw-bale "cottage industry" building, among many other hands-on projects.  Join us near Taos, New Mexico, for a dynamic week of  workshops, slide presentations, discussion, music and networking with the committed practitioners of natural building, permaculture, and sustainable lifestyles.  Included are car/tent camping and three delicious vegetarian meals daily.

The Convergence is set amidst Lama?s thriving summer community:  off-the grid living, incredible natural beauty, heart-felt group activities, and ample opportunities to study, learn, and make new friends.  A 1996 forest fire destroyed much of the community infrastructure, making the Lama Foundation an exceptional natural building and permaculture classroom.  The new event title represents Lama?s shift from ?survival? into ?sustainability? come see how six summers of natural building and permaculture activities have transformed the site, and help us celebrate our rising from the ashes!

Visit www.LamaFoundation.org/BuildHereNow2006.htm for the most recent schedule and more information.

And, if you want a serious start-to-finish hands-on experience consider:

A Natural Building Apprenticeship with Steve Kemble and Mollie Curry
Apprentices will also attend and assist with ?Build Here Now?, which is included.

May 27 (Sat) July 12 (Wed):  6 1/2 weeks
Cost:  $1001, minimum 6 students, maximum 12 students

We will focus on constructing a straw bale building, and investigate
how other natural building methods work, using Lama?s existing
structures as examples.  Guided with ample instruction, apprentices
will learn by doing:  stacking and trimming bales, framing window and
door openings, sculpting cob details, and plastering with earth and lime.
