[Strawbale]Straw bales and septoria

hi

sorry haven't been able to respond sooner to your question - things are
extremely busy on the building site. we harvested and baled the straw
wednesday.

whatever farm animals like least, is first choice for construction! barley
(which they love) is very rich in protein (starch) which over time degrades
making a softer, less durable stem. rye, on the other hand, is poor in
protein and has a tough, rigid stem - the cereal that comes closest to wood.

incidentally, rye grows well in poor soils and so the market price is
normally lower than for wheat - so the best straw is also the cheapest!
