Here a reply from Bill Steen:

 really don't see the advantage in using such a small quantity of it.  
The net gain fora little extra expense doesn't seem worth it.  Clay is 
easy to apply as it is so why bother.  For it to be of any real benefit 
in a floor, that is to say to add hardness to it, you will need to add 
substantially more than that, conceivably up to 10% by volume and you 
will need to have a high percentage of sand for it to work.
