A one page information snippet appears in the February 2001 issue of
Wired Magazine (page 88) entitled "Drowning Out The Stars". It shows
the recent satellite image of Europe in false color (with a chart
showing the corresponding percentage of star loss) from the
University
of Padova. The one paragraph of text basically describes the image
and
the impact of LP and mentions that some areas of Italy already have
laws addressing skyglow.

His maps quantify the upward light flux and more.  Once the RAS have
published his paper he will be able to publish his World Atlas and
we'll have the data for N. America.

Incidentally we now have 3 members of our astronomy club that
admitted
they can't attend meetings unless someone else can drive them due to
GLARE from streetlights! ......I wonder what percentage of the
population currently avoids driving at night
for the same reason?

I know of many people here that have a problem with night driving due
to glare.  Also those horrendous xenon headlights are blinding.
