The Czech Republic is on the verge: the light pollution will stop to grow and will begin to diminish soon, thanks to the new Czech law protecting the atmosphere against all sort of pollution, including ``artificial'' light.
There is a unique opportunity to document the reversal: the present maximum of pollution and the positive effects of the future well aimed and dosed lighting. Sky luminance in various locations and directions will be measured, as well as the skyward light dispersion from the ground, in various angles and with respect to the sources (direct or indirect). Evaluation of luminances in settlements with glaring lighting and with new, fully shielded one will be made. The study will provide data allowing an exact judgement of the degree of reduction of the light pollution. New methods will be developed and published, enabling similar research elsewhere.
Česká republika je na přelomu: světelné znečištění přestane růst a začne se brzy zmenšovat, díky novému českému zákonu chránícímu ovzduší proti všem druhům znečištění, včetně ,,umělým`` světlem.
Je zde jedinečná příležitost k dokumentování tohoto obratu: současného maxima znečištění a kladných důsledků budoucího dobře směrovaného a dávkovaného osvětlování. V rámci navrhovaného projektu bude měřen jas oblohy v různých místech a směrech, stejně jako vzhůru mířící pozemské emise, v různých směrech a podle svých zdrojů (přímých a nepřímých). Budou vyhodnoceny jasy v sídlech s oslnivým a naopak s novým, plně cloněným osvětlením. Tato studie tak poskytne exaktní data k objektivnímu posouzení stupně snižování světelného znečištění. Budou vyvinuty a publikovány nové metody, které umožní podobný výzkum realizovat i jinde.
