Re: [strawbale] Number of Strawbale Houses per country?

Hannes is right. To that end, Bill Christensen at www.greenbuilder.com, a longtime supporter of strawbale construction, put up an International Strawbale Registry, and everyone is encouraged to add listings of strawbale structures to the growing database.

From the introduction at the website:

"The aggregate numbers will be useful in such things as lobbying insurance companies, mortgage companies, building officials, and other such stick-in-the-muds, and will also be useful in further popularizing SB to the general public world wide. Reading in a magazine article that "over $xxx million in strawbale construction already exists in North America" [or Austria, or Australia, etc.] can have a strong effect on our credibility.

"Privacy: If someone hasn't EXPLICITLY said that they're open to visitors/tours, their address and other contact info will NOT be available to the public. Address and contact info will only be used to avoid duplication of listings in those cases.

"The Registry will also act as a contact list for future research and performance testing."

Each Strawbale builder knows, that strawbale building works throughout the whole world and is not restricted to any special climate. To spread this massage among the public we want to show that there are many strawbale houses in countries with dry climates and also in countries with cold, wet or hot climates.
Therefore we would need the number of strawbale buildings of each country. We know, that the exact number of houses is not easy to determine. But it would be very helpful to us, if one, who is familiar with the strawbale activities in his country, could give us an estimation about the number of existing houses built with straw.
