pro ty, co nectou plyne anglicky, ale mozna by rozumeli obrazkum ve
sborniku: jde o velmi siroce pojaty souhrn informaci, ktere byly zkracene
presentovany na konferenci ,,Zachranme noc`` v Benatkach v kvetnu 2002.

Velmi pravdepodobne (,,vedecky odstup`` davam najevo, jen proto ze jsem je
jeste necetl... ;-) jde o nejobsaznejsi, nejinformativnejsi a
nejaktualnejsi dilo, ktere existuje. Stahnout si alespon malou verzi
sborniku s malym rozlisenim obrazku,
by rozhodne zajemci o problematiku ochrany nocniho prostredi (ergo
kvalitniho venkovniho osvetlovani) meli.

Stastny, v noci snad alespon misty uz i temnejsi rok 2003 preje
 jenik hollan

Dear Friends,

the book "Light Pollution and the Protection of the Night Environment" (356
pages, ISBN 88-88517-01-4) is available on-line at the web address:

It collects the Proceedings of the Conference "Light Pollution and the
Protection of the Night Environment - Venice: let's save the night" held in
Venice the 3 May 2002 with the support of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for
Science in Europe (ROSTE) and organized by IDA, ISTIL, Venetostellato with
the collaboration of Cielobuio.

The book, published by the Light Pollution Science and Technology Institute
(ISTIL) with the UNESCO-ROSTE support and edited by Pierantonio Cinzano,
reviews the many aspects of light pollution through contributions of authors
of international relevance (including David Crawford and Bob Gent): the
importance of stargazing to man throughout the centuries, the situation of
the night sky in Europe and Italy, ecological consequences of artificial
night lighting, teaching light pollution at school, technical measures for
an effective limitation of its effects, examples of energy saving,
controlling light pollution in Eastern Europe and much more.

It also includes a large collections of the letters, received from peoples
of all the world, asking to declare the night sky a World Heritage (from the
President of the American Astronomical Society to a student of Chile,
passing for many known names.

Both a normal-resolution PDF (5MB) and a high-resolution PDF (70MB) for
profi printing are downloadable.

I like to thank the proof-readers team (Crawford, Gent, Favero) who helped
in reading the contributions. The book is bilingual (English-Italian).
Please be patient about the peculiar English language of the
non-English-speacking authors (and Editor).

The limited number of copies printed with the UNESCO support is already
exhausted due to the planned delivery to speakers and other peoples. However
we are available to print a further number of copies for peoples willing to
refund the pure cost of printing and mailing. I will post more news as soon
as possible.

Kind regards,

Pierantonio Cinzano
