In 2018 Builders Without Borders focused on: * Sustainable Rebuilding in Nepal - In response to the 2015 Nepal earthquakes, a dedicated Builders Without Borders team designed and built the first straw bale house in Nepal with its Nepali partner, the Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation (KRMEF) http://www.krmef.org/. See BWB’s blog description and a photo tour of the project at http://builderswithoutborders.org/blog/bwb-in-2018-sustainable-rebuilding-in-nepal/ * Building Code Advocacy - Co-director Martin Hammer continued promoting natural building in the International Residential Building Code in collaboration with the Cob Research Institute (CRI) https://www.cobcode.org/. After sections on Strawbale and Light Straw-Clay Construction were approved for the 2015 IRC and a section on Tiny Houses for the 2018 IRC, Martin is now drafting a section on Cob Construction based on recent University and laboratory testing and historical experience. * BWB established a new partnership with Three Mesas Collaborative, which works to improve existing housing on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. In 2019 Builders Without Borders is planning: * Completion of the Nepal Project, and exploring future collaborative opportunities for natural building and training in Nepal. * A Natural Building Workshop in Kingston, NM, focusing on empowering owner-builders wishing to build with straw bales. * Supporting the work of Three Mesas Collaborative on Hopi and other Native American lands. * Aiding the continued work of The Pueblo Project in Nicaragua, empowering women and youth with natural, place-based building skills (https://www.puebloproject.org/) Builders Without Borders is staffed by volunteers, with 95% of all donations funding on-the-ground projects. Please consider supporting BWB’s efforts with a tax-deductible donation at http://builderswithoutborders.org/donate/index.htm ============================================================ Copyright © 2018/2019, BuildersWithoutBorders.org, All rights reserved.
